PONYX
Challenges
There weren’t any significant challenges. We haven’t mentioned, and don’t highlight it, but Perfect Thirds has a lot of experience in motorsport. This project was very familiar to us and we supplied brand I.D., photography, and video. Because of our time in the high-performance automotive industry, PonyX used Perfect Thirds as unofficial product consultants.
The major challenge is developing the car so it’s attractive to race car customers. If it is going to be a popular choice it has to be fast, reliable, easy to drive fast, and have a relatively low cost of ownership.
Logo and Livery
PonyX #1, The Camaro Z28
Clean and simple while still making a statement is what we were after. The logo was developed to suit multiple purposes and to be memorable. It also had to look like a “Motorsports” logo.
For the PonyX Camaro, we loved the simple nose stripe. It’s retro and is just repurposing the stripes that Chevrolet used in the 60s and 70s. We had fallen in love with this color – kind of orange, kind of bronze – when we were choosing vinyl for another livery project. PonyX loved it too.

The Mustang
PonyX #2
The PonyX Mustang TransAm is exactly the same car underneath as the Camaro. Differentiating it wasn’t vital other than making sure to draw on the TransAm heritage of the 1969 Boss 302.
Photography
We had a perfect day to capture the PonyX Mustang with the Thunderhill West race track all to itself. The light that day and the car were destined for a photoshoot.
The goal was to capture imagery for PonyX’s marketing efforts. We were lucky a modern version of a Boss 302 showed up, which created some interesting possibilities.
Video
Shooting a video wasn’t part of the plan. Because the light was so good and the car at speed is something people need to see, we couldn’t help ourselves.
We didn’t bring any video-specific gear so we leaned into the handheld vibe ;). Some basic magic in post-production helps too.
